Sustainability
Building means bringing people together and meeting their basic needs; building for a sustainable future means doing so whilst respecting the planet that sustains us.
Eiffage Génie Civil’s mission is clear: to acknowledge our impact and, therefore, our environmental responsibility, and to build the infrastructure of tomorrow in line with our commitments and ambitions.
Sustainable development at the heart of our strategy
Our strategy aims to harness our expertise and know-how to drive responsible growth. To address growing environmental challenges and requirements, we design and build projects that minimise their impact on ecosystems, reduce the disruption associated with construction sites, and contribute to resilience in the face of climate change.
Our three pillars of sustainable development: an essential synergy
Our sustainability strategy is based on three pillars that guide our actions: Climate, Biodiversity, and Resource Management. Addressing these issues is essential to building a sustainable future. These three pillars are interdependent and reinforce one another. As a major player in the construction industry, adhering to these principles is just as essential to us as meeting the cost and timeline requirements of any project

Decarbonizing the construction industry
Operational excellence goes hand in hand with our environmental responsibility. We have set ambitious greenhouse gas reduction targets, aligned with the 1.5°C pathway defined by the Paris Agreement, for all our operations:
- Scopes 1 and 2: 46% reduction in emissions by 2030*
- Scope 3 (direct upstream and downstream): 30% reduction in emissions by 2030* Contributing to carbon neutrality by 2050
At Eiffage Génie Civil, our expertise and commitment are driving major advances in the decarbonization of our operations. For example, we are developing and deploying new lines of low-carbon-footprint concrete, using fiber-reinforced concrete segments, and implementing advanced solutions for soil characterization, thereby optimizing the environmental impact of our projects. Our research laboratories are at the forefront of designing materials and equipment that emit fewer greenhouse gases.

Preserving Life
Eiffage Génie Civil’s biodiversity strategy is built around complementary pillars aimed at embedding regulatory requirements into our practices—and even going beyond them—by promoting biodiversity in our projects, developing eco-friendly activities, and adopting a responsible approach to transform our practices.
Our actions focus in particular on the restoration of streams and the creation of wildlife crossings. Initiatives such as Kalisterre and ecological engineering illustrate our commitment to the preservation and development of biodiversity.
Circular Economy & Construction Sites
Eiffage Civil Engineering is actively committed to the circular economy and responsible resource management. Our approach is based on clear principles:
- Prevent and reduce: Starting at the design stage, we optimize the use of resources (water, binders, materials) to minimize our impact.
- Reuse and recycle: We maximize the recycling of demolition materials and the reuse of equipment, and promote the creation of resource centers and reuse platforms. Our laboratories are innovating, such as with the recarbonation of crushed concrete aggregates.
- Sustainable water management: Water is a vital resource at the intersection of our key challenges (resources, biodiversity, climate). We adapt our methods in response to climate change and develop patented solutions for water treatment.
Constant regulatory monitoring ensures that our practices remain at the forefront of requirements and innovations.
In the Field: The Collective Commitment of Our Teams
Our environmental strategy is implemented through action plans tailored to each business unit. On the ground, our employees and team leaders are adapting their practices, testing new approaches, innovating, and taking ownership of these initiatives. It is thanks to this collective effort and the tools provided to our teams that we are making real progress toward a more environmentally responsible and sustainable way of building.
BlueOn, the marketplace that puts carbon footprint on a par with price
Launched by Eiffage, the BlueOn marketplace is a pioneering initiative in the construction sector. Its aim is to make responsible procurement the norm by incorporating carbon data into the purchasing process.
BlueOn aims to engage not only Eiffage, but also its suppliers and subcontractors, as well as its entire ecosystem, to accelerate the decarbonisation of the value chain. To be eligible for the platform, each product must provide its carbon footprint, calculated by the manufacturer using the standardised life cycle assessment (LCA) method. This engaging approach strongly encourages manufacturers to step up their management of environmental impacts through the production of LCAs.
