Two new tunnel boring machines for Line 15 East

This Friday, July 17, 2026, Eiffage Génie Civil, together with the project owner Société des grands projets, has officially accepted two new tunnel boring machines (TBMs). Destined for the future Line 15 East of the Grand Paris Express, the machines were received at the Herrenknecht AG manufacturing plant in Germany.

Starting in September 2026, the TBMs will be delivered to their launch site at the Val de Fontenay station worksite, where they will be assembled.

In early 2027, the first TBM will begin tunneling towards the Champigny Centre station and the Salengro structure. It will cover approximately 6 km, passing through the Nogent–Le Perreux and Champigny Centre stations.

By mid-2027, the second TBM will begin its drive towards the Rosny Bois-Perrier tunnel entrance. It will then be dismantled and transported to the Rosny operational center, from where it will commence its second drive towards the Rosny Bois-Perrier entrance structure.

These two Earth Pressure Balance (EPB) TBMs are similar to "Rita," the TBM that has been in operation in Bobigny since the end of May 2026.

With a length of 120 meters and a weight of 1,400 tons, each machine will excavate a tunnel with a 9.87-meter diameter.

Congratulations to all the teams involved!

Thank you to our partners: Demathieu Bard, Setec, and Arcadis!
