Did you know ? The objective of the SMP4 project was to excavate the most critical zone of the route and to validate the overall feasibility of the project. In the "productive coal mine", a very heterogeneous geological zone, convergent (1 m in diameter) and under great cover (600 m deep), the teams managed to excavate 9 km with a tunnel boring machine and 3 km using the traditional method, in mechanical or explosive mode, in complete safety.
